Staples will be represented in the State Open Individual Tournament by Luke Foreman in singles and Class LL State Champions Baxter Stein/Connor Mitnick in doubles.  Both entries have byes to the Quarterfinals which will begin 3:00pm Monday at Yale.

CIAC Update Monday, 8:15 am. Matches will go on as scheduled today. If necessary we will go indoors so there may be some delays. The Avon/Old Saybrook doubles match will go off around one, and the Greenwich doubles match with the pm conflict will go out about 3. Other matches are also scheduled to start at 3 but, as mentioned, delays are possible.
Play resumes Monday with an Opening Round of Doubles at 1:00 at Yale (Arciero/Thramann of Avon vs Sabahudin/Henry of Old Saybrook. The quarterfinals of singles and doubles will follow at 3:00. We are sharing the site with the Girls State Open, so lots of exciting tennis is in store. Tuesday afternoon (4:00) will be the semi-finals, and we will complete the event with our finals on Wednesday afternoon, 4:00 also at Yale University.

Congratulations to Greenwich High who were the runner-up to team championship as well as the runner-up in the doubles championship – Louis McKenzie/Shaw Speer and congratulations Richard Ciamarra of Xavier who won the LL Singles Championship and Bryson Mosely of Ridgefield as runner-up.  A special thank you to the tournament directors for all their work organizing Class LL.

In the State LL format, schools can enter players either into the singles tournament or doubles tournament. Based on team and player qualifications, schools can enter up to 7 teams and can choose to enter 5 singles and 2 doubles teams or 4 singles and 3 doubles teams. For the team standings, one point is awarded for each round won however teams with first round byes receive two points if they win their first match. In 2014, there were 6 rounds of singles (preliminary round prior to 1st round was discounted due to size)  and 6 rounds of doubles.

Staples Wins Class LL Team Championship!!!

First Wrecker Doubles Championship since 2006 clinches 1st place over Greenwich by 1 point 20-19.  All ten Staples players contributed victories in the tournament.
This is the 1st time Staples has won the FCIAC Championship and CT State LL Championship in the same season since 1982. Staples won FCIACs and Class L in 2000.
Staples completed a perfect season 21-0 in match play.

This is very important information that all AD’s, coaches, players, families and spectators NEED to know…there is NO parking on the street for Saturday and Sunday…there will be parking inside the Yale Bowl…while busses are free, there is a $5.00 charge for parking...NO tents are permitted on the premises…NO grills of any type are permitted…and remember to hydrate. As we progress thru the draw it will get hotter and tougher on court.
