Tryouts for the 2014 season are expected to begin Monday, March 24, 2014. Don’t forget that school medical/permission forms must be submitted each season prior to tryouts – see Staples Athletics.

Thank you to the Westport Board of Ed, the Westport Board of Finance, the Westport RTM for approving $320,000 for the Staples tennis courts.   The project which will be overseen by Westport Parks & Rec involves a total renovation of the existing six courts.  The asphalt will be ground down and replaced with a new layer.  The nets and fencing will be replaced and most importantly improvements will be made to the drainage around the courts to increase the longevity of the replacement courts.   Work is expected to begin and be completed this summer.  The existing courts are almost 30 years old and in dire need of replacement.

UPDATE FROM CIAC: Update 8:15 pm Day two heated up with some great matches and the stage is set for our semi-finals tomorrow at Amity High School, 3:30. John Keogh of Norwalk will preside over the matches tomorrow. The singles match ups are: Jason Seidman, Amity vs Luke Foreman, Staples; and Zach Niklaus, Greenwich vs Reid Risinger, Glastonbury. The doubles contestants are: Miles Singer and Danny Soifer, Westhill vs Doug Butturini and Matthew DePrima, Ridgefield; and Thomas Knortz and Bryson Mosley, Ridgefield vs Alex Romaine and Prashant Toteja, Westhill. The finals of LL and L will be held at Amity High School on Saturday, June 1 at 2:00.
